HOUSING

  • Supported Housing Service

At Leeds Irish Health and Homes, we’re proud to support people to live independently with accommodation, regular contact and advice. We have 53 tenancies in total, including 10 self-contained furnished flats for older Irish people in our property Davitt House.

There’s a saying in Irish - “Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine” meaning “It is under the shelter of each other that people thrive.”This is certainly true at Leeds Irish Health and Homes.

  • A Tenant's View

Helena was born in Dublin and raised in Athlone before moving to Leeds. 29 years ago, she was struggling with her mental health issues before a friend recommended Leeds irish Health and Homes.

Helena became Leeds Irish Health and Homes’ first female tenant. The help she received, she says, was both practical and emotional.

“I was terrified of going places and doing things, and they really helped me through that,” Helena explains. “Leeds Irish Health and Homes were very good to me - without their help I might not be here today.”

Helena feels reassured by the safety net a supported tenancy offers. “I know there’s someone if I need them. They can help with filling out forms or explaining letters from the hospital.”

Helena has been volunteering at our Lunch Clubs for 15 years and is a familiar face to many of our regulars.

“I’d do anything for Leeds Irish Health and Homes,” she says, “They gave me my life back.”

“It’s my safe place, it’s my sanctuary.”
